Antique Victorian F. & R. Pratt Lidded Pottery Jar

A beautifully decorated antique English pottery jar by F. & R. Pratt & Co. of Fenton, Staffordshire, dating to the Victorian period, most likely the late 19th century.

This charming cylindrical jar features an elaborate Imari-inspired floral design in rich iron-red, black and gold against a cream-coloured ground.

The decoration incorporates detailed flowers, scrolling foliage and elegant black and gilt geometric borders around the lid and body.

The domed lid is finished with a decorative gilt and black finial and fits snugly onto the jar.

The underside bears the printed manufacturer’s mark:

F & R PRATT & Co – FENTON

A lovely example of decorative Staffordshire pottery, suitable for display, collecting or use as a dressing-table or trinket jar.

Condition

Very good antique condition for its age.

There are no chips or cracks, and the lid fits snugly.

Fine age-related crazing is visible throughout the glaze, together with minor wear to the gilding and a small area of surface abrasion to the black and gilt decorative border, as clearly shown in the photographs.

These details are consistent with the age and history of the piece and do not significantly detract from its decorative appearance.

Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description.

A wonderful addition to a collection of Victorian Staffordshire pottery, antique decorative ceramics or traditional English interiors.
