Antique Porcelain Ewers – Matching Pair – Ornate Metal Mounts – 48cm Tall

A striking and substantial matching pair of ornamental porcelain ewers, believed to date from the late Victorian to early Edwardian period, approximately 1880–1920.

Standing an impressive 48cm tall, these elegant decorative pieces feature beautifully shaped cream-coloured porcelain bodies, complemented by elaborate cast-metal mounts with scrolling handles, sweeping curved spouts and richly ornamented bases.

The porcelain bodies feature complementary floral designs. One displays an intricate arrangement of pale blue-grey flowers, raised detailing and warm orange-gold outlines, while the other has a more restrained botanical design in matching golden tones.

The elaborate cast-metal mounts are believed to be spelter, with an attractive bronze-effect patinated finish and warm gold-toned highlights. Small areas of silvery-grey metal are visible where the surface finish has worn, consistent with this attribution.

The metalwork displays age-related wear and patination, together with small remnants of white paint. The mounts have not been polished or restored, retaining their attractive aged appearance.

Age and Origin

The design and construction suggest Continental European manufacture, possibly French or German, during the late 19th or early 20th century.

The ewers are unmarked, and their precise manufacturer, origin and age have not been confirmed.

Condition

Both ewers display age-related wear and patination consistent with their believed period.

The cream-coloured porcelain bodies show some surface blemishes, small marks and areas of discolouration, visible in the photographs. These have been left as found and are part of the overall aged appearance of the pieces.

The ornate metal mounts retain their dark patinated finish with areas of warm gold-toned metal showing through. There are also some small remnants of white paint on the metalwork.

The ewers have not been polished or restored, preserving their attractive aged character.
