Antique Chinese Qing Dynasty cloisonné enamel shallow dish, finely decorated with pink, white and lilac flowers against a rich cobalt-blue ground.
This is an unusually intricate small example. The floral decoration is surrounded by exceptionally dense scrolling cloison wirework across the blue ground, with further fine wire detailing within the flowers and leaves. The enamel palette includes graduated pinks, white, lavender, turquoise green and deep cobalt blue.
The reverse is extensively enamelled in turquoise and finished with an exposed copper-alloy foot rim.
Dating:
This appears to be an early Chinese Qing Dynasty cloisonné enamel dish. The fine and unusually dense cloison work, enamel palette, construction and considerable natural ageing are consistent with Qing-period manufacture.
Stylistically, an 18th to early 19th-century date appears possible. However, as the dish is unmarked and has no documented provenance, it is conservatively offered as 18th/19th century rather than attributed to a particular reign.
Approximate dimensions:
* Diameter: 9.5 cm
* Height: 2 cm
Condition:
This is a genuinely old piece showing considerable age-related wear. There is extensive crazing to the turquoise enamel on the reverse, together with areas of enamel loss/chipping around the outer rim exposing the underlying metal. There is also crazing, surface wear and small areas of enamel loss to the decorated face.
These signs of age have been photographed closely and are not concealed. Please study all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition description.
Despite its condition, this remains a particularly attractive and finely worked example of antique Chinese cloisonné, with considerably more intricate wirework than is normally encountered on later small decorative dishes.
