Antique Anchor China Side Plates Set of 10 S.B. & S. Harrods London Indian Tree

A beautiful set of 10 antique English china side plates by S.B. & S. (Samuel Bridgwood & Son), Anchor China, decorated in a colourful Indian Tree / chinoiserie-inspired floral pattern with gilt detailing.

An especially interesting feature of this set is that five of the ten plates also carry the Harrods Ltd London retailer’s backstamp, alongside the Anchor China mark.

The remaining five carry the Anchor China S.B. & S. England mark without the Harrods stamp.

Dating from the early 20th century, approximately 1910s–1920s, these make a particularly attractive decorative set and would work beautifully for afternoon tea, display or as part of an antique English china collection.

Condition

The set presents very attractively overall and displays well.

Of the five Harrods-stamped plates, four have only expected minor age and use-related wear. One has a fine stable fracture/hairline to the base.

Of the five plates without the Harrods stamp, four have generally minor age-related wear. One has a fine hairline to the base and another hairline extending to the edge, together with some crazing and light staining to the reverse.

There are no other chips or crazing noted.
