Antique Chinese hand-painted famille rose porcelain plate, dating from the late Qing to early Republic period, circa 1890-1930.
A very attractive small Chinese porcelain plate decorated by hand in colourful famille rose enamels with flowering branches, foliage and a central peach motif.
The decoration uses a particularly appealing palette of deep green, pink, iron red and yellow-green, with freely painted black outlines. The hand-painted nature can be clearly seen in the variation of the brushwork and enamelling.
The underside carries an iron-red seal-style mark. This is considered an apocryphal/revival mark and the plate is being offered on the basis of its late Qing/early Republic-period characteristics rather than attributing it to the earlier reign represented by the mark.
Approximate measurements:
* Diameter: 16 cm
* Height: 2.6 cm
* Weight: 228 g
Condition:
Antique condition with wear consistent with age and use. There is noticeable wear and loss to areas of the enamel decoration, together with small marks, firing imperfections and general signs of age. Please study all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition description.
A characterful genuine period piece of Chinese decorative porcelain, particularly appealing for a collection of antique Chinese ceramics, famille rose porcelain or Asian decorative art.
