Vintage Russian Palekh Lacquer Box Troika Hand Painted Signed Folk Art

Beautiful vintage Russian Palekh lacquer miniature box, featuring a wonderfully colourful hand-painted Troika scene of three galloping horses pulling a traditional sleigh through a snowy landscape.

The miniature is finely painted in vivid shades of blue, turquoise, yellow, red and orange against the characteristic glossy black ground, with delicate gold-coloured detailing around the box.

The underside carries a hand-painted Cyrillic inscription which appears to read:

Палех – Palekh
Тройка – Troika

with an additional artist/initial inscription beneath. I have not attributed the initials to a particular artist as I have been unable to establish the painter with sufficient certainty.

The box has the traditional contrasting bright red lacquered interior and a hinged lid.

A particularly attractive example of Russian lacquer miniature painting, with a dynamic Troika composition and lots of fine detail to the horses, figures, sleigh and winter landscape.

* 9.5 cm wide
* 3.5 cm high

Condition:
Good vintage condition overall. There are age-related surface marks, light scratches and signs of handling, particularly to the underside, as shown in the photographs. The painted scene remains bright and extremely attractive. Please study all photographs as they form an important part of the condition description.
