Vintage Chinese Plique à Jour Enamel Egg Floral Cloisonné Translucent 7.5cm

Beautiful vintage Chinese plique-à-jour enamel decorative egg, finely worked with colourful flowering branches against an intricate translucent white ground.

Unlike conventional cloisonné, plique-à-jour enamel is created without an opaque metal backing behind the enamel cells, allowing light to pass through and giving the piece its distinctive stained-glass appearance.

This example has particularly detailed wirework, with hundreds of small overlapping scalloped cells forming the background. Branches of colourful flowers in turquoise blue, green, yellow and soft mauve decorate the surface, with a deep blue floral motif surrounding the small opening at the top.

A lovely decorative piece which displays especially well where natural light can illuminate the translucent enamel.
