Vintage Faux Tortoiseshell Jewellery / Trinket Box – H. Chapman & Co., Chelmsford

A lovely small vintage lidded jewellery or trinket box with an attractive translucent faux tortoiseshell finish in rich amber and dark brown tones.

H. Chapman & Co. was a longstanding Chelmsford jewellery business, giving this little box particularly nice local and retail history.

The box consists of a shallow fitted base and removable lid, both displaying attractive mottled tortoiseshell-effect figuring.

Based on its construction, styling and retailer information, I believe this example dates from approximately the 1970s-1980s, although an exact manufacturing date has not been established.
