Vintage Real Ebony Gentleman’s Grooming Brushes Leather Travel Case c.1920s

A wonderful vintage gentleman’s grooming set comprising two real ebony brushes housed in their original brown leather travelling case.

Each brush has a beautifully shaped, polished black ebony back and dense pale bristles. Importantly, the ebony is stamped “REAL EBONY” to the side.

The pair fit neatly together inside the purpose-made brown leather case, which has hand-stitched edges and a traditional buckle fastening.

A particularly attractive survivor from the era of gentleman’s travelling and dressing accessories. I believe the set dates to approximately the 1920s–1930s, although there are no maker’s or date marks and the dating should therefore be regarded as approximate.

The ebony has developed a lovely soft sheen with age, while the leather case has the warm, worn patina that comes from decades of use.

Condition

Good vintage condition overall.

The ebony brushes show light surface marks and scratches consistent with age and use. The bristles remain full, although they show some age and use.

The leather case has surface scratches, rubbing, colour variation and general age-related wear. The stitching and buckle fastening remain present.
