Ercole Moretti Murano Glass Gold Leaf Murrine Dish / Plate
A particularly striking authentic Murano glass dish by renowned Venetian glassmaker Ercole Moretti, richly decorated with shimmering gold leaf and colourful glass inclusions.
The square dish has a beautiful translucent green glass ground, heavily embellished with gold foil together with scattered blue, green, amber and reddish murrine and glass details. Pale turquoise trails run through the composition, creating an almost abstract, painterly effect which changes dramatically according to the light.
Of particular interest is the incorporated “M” murrina, the distinctive signature used by Ercole Moretti to identify its work. The company confirms that this M cane is incorporated into its signed pieces. Ercole Moretti was established on Murano in 1911 and remains particularly celebrated for its murrine and millefiori glasswork.
Alongside the M are two further letter murrine which appear to read V and I. Their precise significance has not been established, so no specific attribution is made for these additional canes.
The dish also retains its circular Vetro Artistico Murano / Made in Italy label.
A superb decorative piece of genuine Murano glass and a particularly attractive example of Ercole Moretti’s fused glass production. The extraordinary amount of gold gives it a wonderfully luminous appearance when displayed where it can catch the light.
