A beautiful miniature Chinese plique-à-jour enamel bowl, presented with its original fitted box and small wooden display stand.
Measuring just 4.5 cm in diameter and 3 cm tall without the stand, this is a particularly charming little example of the plique-à-jour technique. Fine metal cells form the design and are filled with translucent coloured enamel, allowing light to pass through and creating a wonderful stained-glass effect.
The decoration incorporates delicate blue flowers, green leaves and purple accents against a predominantly translucent ground, with a rich blue border around the rim and gilt-coloured metal finishing.
The bowl comes with its patterned fitted presentation box, which retains its original Chinese ART. NO. / COLOUR label, together with the separate dark wooden display stand.
I believe this dates from the later 20th century, probably circa 1970s–1980s, although an exact date or maker cannot be confirmed.
Measurements:
Bowl: approx. 4.5 cm diameter × 3 cm high
Measurements exclude the wooden stand.
Condition:
Vintage condition as shown in the photographs. Please examine all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description. The original presentation box shows some age-related wear and discolouration.
A lovely little collector’s piece and particularly attractive displayed where natural light can illuminate the translucent enamel.
