A beautiful Russian lacquer miniature box featuring a finely hand-painted winter view of the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood in St Petersburg, one of Russia’s most distinctive landmarks.
The miniature is particularly detailed for its small size, with finely rendered architecture, snow-covered canal-side scenery and extensive shimmering gold-coloured detailing which catches the light beautifully.
There is also a handwritten artist’s inscription/signature along the lower edge of the painting, although I have not been able to confidently decipher or attribute it.
The box has a traditional glossy black exterior, rich red interior and hinged lid. It is believed to date from approximately the 1990s, although it is not dated and I have therefore listed the age conservatively.
Measurements:
7.2 cm × 5.2 cm × 3.2 cm approximately
Condition:
Very good pre-owned condition overall, with minor signs of age/use consistent with a vintage decorative piece. Please study the photographs carefully as these form an important part of the description.
A particularly attractive little example of Russian lacquer miniature art and a lovely piece for a collector of Russian art, lacquerware or St Petersburg memorabilia.
