Vintage Ercole Moretti Murano Glass Plate 14cm | Signed M Murrine | Millefiori Italian Art Glass

A striking vintage Ercole Moretti Murano art glass plate, handmade in Italy and measuring approximately 14 × 14 cm.

This beautiful square plate combines large geometric sections of richly coloured fused glass in cobalt blue, turquoise, emerald, lime green, amber, yellow, ruby red and smoky blue, arranged around a central cluster of traditional millefiori murrine.

Particularly important is the small blue murrina bearing the distinctive white “M”, incorporated into the lower corner of the plate. This is the characteristic Ercole Moretti signature murrina used to identify the firm’s Murano glass work.

Ercole Moretti was established on Murano in 1911 and is particularly celebrated for its colourful murrine and millefiori glass. The company expanded its production into decorative plates during the 1980s, applying its established murrina-working techniques to larger pieces of decorative glass.

The combination of traditional millefiori canes with the much larger blocks of saturated colour gives this example a particularly bold, modern appearance. When illuminated, the different colours become exceptionally vibrant.

Very good vintage condition overall. Minor surface marks and small irregularities associated with age and handmade glass may be present. Small bubbles and variations within the glass are part of the manufacturing process and character of the piece.

Please study all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description.

A wonderfully colourful and immediately recognisable piece of Murano glass, ideal for an Ercole Moretti or Italian art-glass collection and equally effective displayed simply as a piece of modern decorative art.
