A beautiful vintage hand-blown art glass vase featuring striking opaque white glass canes running vertically through a substantial clear glass body.
The vase has a wonderfully rounded, almost spherical form with a narrow neck and gently flared polished rim. The white canes sweep around the underside in a distinctive spiral before travelling upwards through the body, creating a particularly attractive effect when viewed from different angles.
The construction is consistent with the traditional Venetian filigrana / vetro a fili technique, where opaque glass canes are incorporated into clear glass during manufacture. The clear and white combination is often associated with Murano glassmaking of the mid-20th century.
The vase is unsigned and no original manufacturer’s label remains, so I have not attributed it to a particular Murano factory or designer.
Approximate date: c.1950s–1970s
Origin/style: Venetian / Italian style
Technique: Hand-blown filigrana glass with opaque white lattimo canes
Dimensions:
Height: 9.5 cm
Maximum diameter: 9 cm
A charming small-scale piece with plenty of presence despite its compact size. The spiral arrangement of the white canes visible through the base is particularly appealing and provides a lovely insight into its handmade construction.
Condition:
Good vintage condition overall. There are some light surface scratches and signs of age/use visible on close inspection, together with small bubbles and irregularities associated with handmade glass. Please study the photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description.
An attractive piece for collectors of vintage Italian art glass, Venetian glass and mid-century decorative glass.
