A beautiful small antique Chinese cloisonné enamel dish, dating to the late Qing / early Republic period, circa 1890–1920.
Measuring approximately 8 cm in diameter, the dish is richly decorated with a large stylised pink and red flower surrounded by vivid green leaves and deep cobalt-blue blossoms. The design is set against a striking turquoise enamel ground worked with a geometric cloisonné pattern.
The reverse is also finished in turquoise enamel and decorated with simple floral outlines around the recessed foot, demonstrating that attention was given to both sides of this charming little piece.
The enamel has wonderful character, with subtle variations in colour and texture characteristic of hand-worked cloisonné. The exposed metal wires and rim have developed an attractive aged patina.
Condition:
Good antique condition overall with age-related surface wear, fine scratches, enamel pitting and small areas of discolouration consistent with its age and manufacture. There is wear to the underside, including a rubbed area to the centre. Please study all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description.
Approximate size:
Diameter: 8 cm / 3.15 inches
A particularly attractive small example of antique Chinese cloisonné, ideal for a collection of Asian art, Chinese enamelware or simply as a colourful decorative cabinet piece.
Dating is an informed attribution based upon the construction, decoration and appearance of the piece rather than a documented provenance.
