Vintage Russian Lacquer Heart-Shaped Trinket Box – Hand Painted Folk Art Couple

A charming vintage Russian lacquered trinket box in an unusual heart shape, decorated with a colourful traditional folk scene depicting a young couple in Russian costume.

The miniature is surrounded by delicate gold-coloured scrollwork and dotted ornamentation against the glossy black lacquer ground, with further painted gold detail incorporated into the figures’ traditional clothing.

There is a line of gold-painted Cyrillic-style script beneath the scene. I have not been able to confidently identify the inscription and have therefore left the precise subject and artist unattributed.

The box measures approximately:

6.5 cm × 6 cm × 3.5 cm

A particularly appealing example due to its heart-shaped form and romantic folk subject, making it an attractive addition to a collection of Russian lacquerware, folk art or miniature painted boxes.

Condition:
Vintage condition with light surface wear and minor marks consistent with age and previous handling. The underside shows some light surface scratching/wear. Please study all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description.

The box is being sold as a vintage Russian-style hand-decorated lacquer box. No maker’s or factory mark has been identified, so I have deliberately avoided attributing it to one of the specific Russian lacquer miniature schools.
