Vintage Russian Palekh Hand Painted Lacquer Box The Couple Signed Miniature 5cm

Vintage Russian Palekh Hand-Painted Lacquer Miniature Box – “The Couple”

A charming small Russian lacquer miniature from Palekh, beautifully hand painted with a traditional romantic scene depicting a young couple in elaborate folk costume.

Despite measuring only 5 cm, the lid contains an impressive amount of detail, with finely painted faces and clothing, delicate gold-coloured highlights and an intricate scrolling border surrounding the composition.

The lower edge of the painting is inscribed in Cyrillic:

“Парочка” (Parochka / “The Couple”)
“Палех” (Palekh)
and an apparent artist’s surname/signature, “Закатов” (Zakatov).

The box has the characteristic black lacquered exterior and contrasting red interior associated with traditional Russian lacquer miniature work.

A particularly attractive little example for a collector of Palekh miniatures, Russian folk art or hand-painted lacquerware.

Approximate dimensions:
5 cm long
4 cm wide
