Russian Fedoskino Lacquer Box Hand Painted Mother of Pearl Winter Scene 4cm

Beautiful miniature Russian Fedoskino lacquer box, finely hand painted with a wonderfully atmospheric winter architectural scene.

The miniature depicts traditional Russian church architecture surrounded by snow-covered buildings and trees, with warm golden details contrasting beautifully against the cool winter landscape.

A particularly attractive feature is the iridescent inset beneath the painted scene, which appears consistent with mother-of-pearl / nacre. As the box is moved in the light, this area changes dramatically through silver, gold, green, turquoise and vivid blue, creating a wonderful luminous effect within the landscape.

The use of reflective mother-of-pearl beneath painted decoration is a technique associated with traditional Fedoskino lacquer miniature painting.

The lower edge of the miniature carries handwritten Cyrillic inscriptions, including “Федоскино” (Fedoskino).

The box has a traditional glossy black lacquer exterior, rich red lacquered interior and hinged lid.

Despite measuring only 4cm square, the artist has incorporated an impressive amount of fine architectural and landscape detail, making this a particularly charming little example of Russian lacquer miniature art.

Dimensions:
Approx. 4cm × 4cm × 2.5cm high.

Condition:
Good vintage condition overall with light surface wear and marks consistent with age and previous handling. There is some wear and residue visible to the underside. The hand-painted miniature remains bright and attractive, and the iridescent inset displays beautifully as the light changes.

Please study all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description and condition assessment.

Please note: The iridescent material appears consistent with mother-of-pearl/nacre from its appearance and colour play, although the material has not been independently tested.

A beautiful little collector’s piece, ideal for a collection of Fedoskino lacquer miniatures, Russian folk art or hand-painted decorative boxes.
