Vintage Russian Lacquer Box Hand Painted Malinka Folk Art 8cm Square Trinket Box

A charming vintage Russian lacquer box featuring a beautifully hand-painted folk-art scene entitled “Малинка” (Malinka).

The square black lacquered box is decorated with two figures gathering berries amongst richly painted foliage and flowers. The composition is particularly attractive, with warm reds, greens and gold detailing standing beautifully against the deep black ground.

On close inspection, the decoration displays the individual brushwork, variation and fine hand-applied details characteristic of hand painting. Gold-coloured highlights have been used extensively throughout the foliage, costumes and decorative borders.

The title “Малинка” is painted beneath the scene. Malinka relates to raspberry in Russian, fitting the berry-gathering subject depicted.

The box has the traditional contrasting red lacquered interior, with a black lacquered exterior and hinged lid.

Dimensions:
Approx. 8 cm × 8 cm × 2.5 cm

Condition:
Vintage condition with age-related surface wear, scratches and small areas of lacquer loss, particularly around the edges and corners. There is also visible surface scratching/wear to the underside. The hand-painted decoration remains colourful and displays very well.

Please study all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition description.

A lovely decorative example of Russian lacquer folk art and an appealing addition to a collection of Russian boxes, miniature painting or traditional folk art.

Please note: I have not identified a specific artist, village or workshop, so the piece is deliberately not attributed to Palekh, Kholuy, Mstera or Fedoskino.
