Ercole Moretti Murano Glass Tree Dish Murrine Millefiori Signed M Cane Italy 9cm

A beautiful and unusual Ercole Moretti Murano glass dish, featuring a wonderfully stylised tree created from colourful individual murrine canes.

The tree canopy is formed from an assortment of intricate floral and geometric millefiori-style murrine in red, yellow, green, blue, pink, white and amber, with a rich amber glass trunk beneath.

What makes this particular piece especially striking is the background glass. The colours graduate dramatically from vivid lime green through yellow and fiery orange into a deep aubergine-purple, creating an almost abstract landscape behind the tree.

Set into the lower corner is the distinctive blue murrina containing the white letter “M”, the signature cane associated with Ercole Moretti of Murano, Venice.

The reverse is particularly attractive too, revealing the rich translucent aubergine-purple glass and the shadow of the murrine decoration within.

Founded in Murano in 1911, Ercole Moretti is renowned for its highly skilled use of traditional murrine and millefiori glass techniques. Small pictorial pieces such as this make wonderful examples of Murano glass artistry and are increasingly appealing to collectors.
