Vintage Russian Hand Painted Lacquer Box: Green Woodpecker, Kholui Style Trinket (5cm)

Vintage Russian Hand-Painted Lacquer Miniature Box – Green Woodpecker – Signed – 5cm

A delightful vintage Russian lacquer miniature trinket box featuring a beautifully hand-painted green woodpecker perched amongst leafy branches. The artwork wraps around the sides of the box and is finished with a rich gloss lacquer, while the interior is decorated in the traditional vibrant red lacquer.

The underside bears a handwritten Cyrillic inscription including the title “Дятел” (Woodpecker) together with the artist’s signature. While the artist has not been conclusively identified, the box is consistent with traditional Russian lacquer miniature craftsmanship and is believed to date from the 1980s to early 1990s.

This charming cabinet-sized box is ideal for storing rings, earrings or other treasured keepsakes and would make a wonderful addition to a collection of Russian lacquer art, bird paintings or miniature decorative boxes.

Condition
Very good vintage condition with bright colours and a glossy finish. There is a small area of lacquer loss near the front catch, visible in the photographs, together with light age-related wear consistent with careful use. The hinge is secure and the box opens and closes well.
