A highly decorative antique Venetian opalescent glass goblet, most likely Murano, dating from the late 19th century, circa 1870 to 1890.

The goblet has a beautiful pale blue-white opalescent glass bowl, formed with a distinctive six-lobed scalloped outline. It is richly hand decorated with cobalt blue scrolling motifs, iron-red enamel detail, gilt highlights and raised white enamel “jewelled” dots.

The bowl is raised on a clear hand-worked ornamental stem with a spreading opalescent foot. The combination of historicist gilding, colourful enamel decoration and ornate hand-blown construction gives this piece a wonderful Venetian Renaissance Revival character.

Comparable late-19th-century Murano goblets, including examples associated with Salviati and the Venice and Murano Glass and Mosaic Company, used similarly elaborate gilded and enamelled historicist decoration. This piece is therefore offered as probably Venetian / Murano glass, possibly from the Salviati-era revival period, although no maker’s mark is present.

A striking collector’s piece, display goblet, cabinet curiosity or unusual addition to a Venetian glass collection.
