A beautiful hand-painted Russian lacquer box depicting the Moscow Kremlin illuminated beneath a spectacular display of fireworks.

This is a particularly striking example of Russian lacquer miniature art, executed with exceptional attention to detail. The panoramic cityscape combines the iconic architecture of the Kremlin and St. Basil’s Cathedral, delicately outlined in gold against a deep black lacquer ground.

One of the most attractive features of this piece is the use of iridescent mother-of-pearl beneath the painted surface. As the box is turned in the light, the fireworks and illuminated buildings shimmer with changing colours, creating an effect that photographs struggle to capture.

The painting is signed Лихачев (Likhachev) by the artist in the lower right corner, with Москва (Moscow) inscribed in the lower left.

The box is constructed from traditional lacquered papier-mâché with a rich black exterior and vibrant red lacquered interior. The finish is smooth and highly polished throughout.
