Antique Chinese hand painted enamel on copper lidded box or tea caddy, dating to the late Qing or early Republic period (circa 1900-1930).
This charming cylindrical enamel container features a beautiful turquoise-green ground decorated with delicate hand-painted scrolling vines and colourful flowers in shades of pink, blue and yellow. The lid is similarly decorated, while the interior is finished in a soft apple-green enamel. The copper rims have developed a pleasing aged patina, adding to its antique character.
A versatile decorative piece, it could originally have served as a tea caddy, cosmetic container or covered storage jar, and today makes a wonderful display item for collectors of Chinese enamelware or Asian decorative arts.
