A charming vintage Japanese cloisonné enamel miniature dish dating to the late Meiji or Taishō period (circa 1895 to 1925).
This beautifully handcrafted piece is decorated with a striking central six-petalled flower in vibrant orange and crimson enamel surrounding a white heart-shaped centre. The floral motif is framed by an elegant network of stylised blossoms and foliage created using fine silver wire against a softly shaded olive green and deep brown ground, finished with a rich blue scalloped border.
The reverse is finished in an attractive speckled green enamel, a feature often found on better quality Japanese cloisonné from the early twentieth century.
Unlike the more commonly encountered bright blue examples, the subtle earthy colour palette gives this piece an understated Art Nouveau aesthetic, making it particularly appealing to collectors of Japanese decorative arts.
Whether displayed in a cabinet, incorporated into a collection of Asian antiques or used as a decorative trinket dish, this is a delightful example of traditional Japanese craftsmanship.
Approximate dimensions:
• Diameter: 7.5 cm

Condition
Very good vintage condition with light age-related surface wear, a few tiny firing pits typical of hand-enamelled cloisonné, and minor wear to the metal rim. No significant chips, cracks or repairs observed. Please study the photographs carefully as they form part of the description.
A beautiful early twentieth-century cabinet piece that displays wonderfully and would make an excellent addition to any collection of Japanese cloisonné or Asian decorative arts.
