Vintage European Majolica Elephant Teapot | Hand Painted Figural Ceramic (1920s-1940s)

Shipping to United States: $49.03

A wonderfully characterful vintage European majolica elephant teapot dating to approximately the 1920s-1940s.

This delightful figural teapot features a beautifully modelled elephant with a richly glazed warm chestnut body, expressive raised trunk, hand-painted floral saddle blanket and a removable lid surmounted by a seated rider figure. The elephant’s open mouth forms the pouring spout, while the original ceramic handle mounts remain in place, indicating that the original swing handle is no longer present.

Although unmarked, the quality of the modelling, vibrant majolica glazes and construction are strongly reminiscent of French or Belgian art pottery produced during the interwar period. The combination of warm copper-brown glaze, colourful floral decoration and whimsical figural design gives the piece tremendous decorative appeal and makes it a wonderful addition to a collection of European art pottery, novelty teapots or animal-themed ceramics.

Rather than attributing it to a specific pottery without definitive evidence, I have chosen to describe it conservatively as an unattributed European majolica example in the French or Belgian tradition.

A rare and eye-catching decorative piece that immediately becomes a conversation starter.
