A striking matched pair of antique Chinese cloisonné enamel dragon vases, dating from the late Qing to early Republic period, circa 1900-1925.
Beautifully decorated against an intricate black cloud ground, each vase features a traditional five-clawed yellow dragon pursuing a flaming pearl, surrounded by finely executed cloisonné wirework and richly coloured enamels in turquoise, cobalt blue, emerald green, red and gilt tones.
The restrained colour palette, detailed cloud patterning and traditional dragon decoration are characteristic of quality Chinese cloisonné produced during the late Qing and early Republic period. While an exact date cannot be guaranteed, the craftsmanship, construction and decorative style suggest an early 20th-century example rather than later decorative production.
The pair display wonderfully together and retain a rich aged patina developed over many decades. Matching pairs of this size are becoming increasingly difficult to find.

The second vase has sustained historic impact damage, resulting in one larger dent with associated enamel loss to the shoulder/body together with a second smaller dent which has not broken the enamel. There are also minor areas of enamel wear, surface marks, oxidation and natural patina consistent with age.
