Vintage Russian Fedoskino Lacquer Box Horses Landscape Signed Gilt Decoration

A beautiful vintage Russian lacquer box featuring an atmospheric landscape with horses drinking at the water’s edge, surrounded by intricate gold-coloured scrollwork decoration.

The scene is inscribed “Федоскино” (Fedoskino) and also carries additional Cyrillic markings/signature within the composition.

Following very close examination, I believe the central landscape incorporates a printed or transferred image beneath the lacquer rather than being entirely hand painted. The surrounding gilt-style ornamentation appears to have been applied by hand, and there may also be hand finishing or enhancement to the central image.

I have deliberately photographed the surface at very close range so prospective buyers can see the construction and decoration clearly.

The box has a wonderfully glossy black lacquer finish, with delicate scrolling gold decoration extending around the border. The pastoral horse scene has particularly attractive autumnal colouring, with reflections of the horses in the water and trees receding into the landscape.

The multiple layers of lacquer give the image considerable depth and a rich glossy appearance when viewed in person.

Good vintage condition overall with age-related surface wear and marks consistent with previous use. The high-gloss lacquer surface may show fine scratches, reflections and other signs of age when viewed closely. Please study all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description.

An attractive example of Russian decorative lacquer work and a lovely display piece for a collection of Russian lacquerware, equestrian art or traditional decorative boxes.
