Vintage Hand-Painted Russian Lacquer Box: Winter Landscape Miniature Art Trinket

A beautiful vintage hand-painted Russian lacquer trinket box featuring a peaceful winter landscape with a traditional log cabin, snow-covered trees and a horse-drawn sleigh beneath a dramatic winter sky.

The artwork appears to be entirely hand painted and is signed in Cyrillic. The box features the traditional black lacquer exterior with decorative gilt border and a vibrant red lacquer interior.

The subtle iridescent glow within the sky suggests the possible use of mother-of-pearl beneath the paint, a technique associated with quality Russian lacquer work.

The exact artist has not been identified, although the painting appears to be by a skilled hand.

Condition

There is damage around the hinge area with some lacquer loss exposing the traditional red undercoat, together with light age-related surface wear consistent with normal use. The hinge is damaged/broken and the lid is no longer securely attached at the hinge, as clearly shown in the photographs. The box can still be displayed attractively, and the decorative miniature remains vibrant and presents beautifully. Please study all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition description. The damaged hinge has been fully taken into account when pricing the piece.

A lovely decorative piece for collectors of Russian lacquerware, miniature paintings and traditional folk art.
