A beautiful vintage fused glass pin or trinket dish attributed to Ercole Moretti of Murano, Italy, renowned for their mastery of millefiori and murrine glass. Stand not included in sale.
This striking square dish features a vibrant geometric composition in cobalt blue, ruby red, turquoise, amber and clear glass. Embedded within the design are three murrine canes, including the well-known “M” cane associated with Ercole Moretti together with a much rarer accompanying “V” cane and a floral millefiori cane, making this an especially interesting example.
Ercole Moretti has been producing handcrafted Murano glass since 1911 and expanded into fused glass dishes, bowls and decorative tableware during the 1970s, becoming one of the leading names in modern murrine glass.
The precise significance of the additional V cane is not documented in the literature I have been able to consult. It appears to be an intentional part of the design and may indicate a particular series or production run, making this an intriguing piece for collectors.
