Vintage Russian Kholui Lacquer Box: Hand-Painted Snow Maiden Fairy Tale Miniature Trinket Box

Beautiful vintage Russian lacquer miniature trinket box featuring an exquisitely hand-painted winter fairy tale scene in the traditional Kholui style.

The lid depicts a striking Snow Maiden-like figure seated amongst swirling winter clouds, crystalline ice formations and bullfinch birds, rendered in rich shades of blue, turquoise, white and gold against a deep black lacquer ground. The level of detail throughout the artwork is exceptional, with delicate brushwork, fine highlights and intricate decorative motifs creating a wonderfully atmospheric composition.

The box is signed by the artist and retains its traditional black lacquer exterior with gilt decoration and a vivid red lacquer interior. Pieces of this quality are highly sought after by collectors of Russian lacquer miniatures, folk art and decorative boxes.

A beautiful display piece as well as a practical trinket or jewellery box.
